“We looked at many venues before finding Riverwood Downs. We wanted somewhere that was close to home but far enough away from the city, so we could switch off and enjoy our special day. Onsite accommodation for our guests was also a must.

Riverwood Downs had all these things and more! It is such a spectacular venue with the river running through the property, rolling hills and a beautiful Australian native flora landscape.”

CEREMONY
“We had our ceremony in a shaded glade on the property. I am Pagan and my husband is Scottish, so we incorporated the beautiful tradition of Handfasting – a practice that the phrase ‘tying the knot’ originated from. Selected family and friends come forward and place a piece of cord over our held hands which is then tied together, giving their blessing. A gorgeous, intimate moment BUT we forgot the cords! Our guests started taking off their ties for us to use. Which was the most overwhelming feeling of love.”

RECEPTION
“Our reception kicked off in the large, gorgeously rustic Woolshed. The space was styled as a ‘Viking hall’ – with four long tables for our guests and just the two of us up the front on our own table. Each of our tables was individually themed based on a book or film we had shared in our time together with small trinkets, books and decorative lights to fit each. It was magical night full of lots of drinking and dancing and even a bonfire down by the river.

During the reception Bri’s brothers gave a speech and spoke about how much their Dad, who had passed, would have loved to be there and how he was planning to sing on the day. The boys then played a recording of Dad singing Parallel Lines by Keith Urban over the reception hall speaker. It meant so much to me to hear Dad on my wedding day. I was so very special.”

“Our style was mystical and whimsical. We wanted the style of our wedding to be a reflection of us, our heritages and the things that brought us together. Our personal styling had a heavy ‘Viking’ influence as it was a good combination of our heritage and affiliation. This involved lots of hair braiding, kilts, crystals, and native florals mixed with Scottish thistle.”
